Vintage / antique, handmade, circa 1935, Spiesz Furniture Company Limited (Hanover, Ontario) Art Deco, solid finished walnut glass display / china cabinet with Spiesz’s original manufacturer’s label / mark, no. 294 (see photograph). The cabinet has four (4) solid carved legs, each with their original brass casters providing easy, one person, movability. CONDITION: EXCELLENT.

The cabinet’s construction remains tight and sturdy, stands upright with no wob-bling or instability. The walnut front, sides and top pieces are intact, retain-ing their original, rich brown finish with no marks, chipping, fading, discolora-tion or staining on their surfaces. There are several minor scratches at the mold-ing top of the left side (see photographs #20 & #21). The original brass door latch works fine, opens and closes smoothly.

The cabinet was part of the Spiesz, mid-1930’s, dining room suites in production. (See photograph no.24 from Grey Roots Museum & Archives for a very similar 1935 Spiesz China Cabinet, curated in their display.)

• Art Deco Details:

(1) Clear, bright, colorless center glass pane with wood trim fretwork, measuring 32" Height, 18" Width. Fretwork is intact, with no chipping, damage or discoloration.

(2) Two (2) vertical, shield-like, raised appliques panels measuring 29" Height, 6" Width, in original, excellent condition.

• Dimensions: Height : 68”; Width: 39”; Depth: 15.5”.

• Four (4) pages from The Hamilton Spectator, 12.27.1961, are included and stored in the lower drawer. These newspaper pages were in the drawer when owner purchased the cabinet from Scott’s Antiques, Atlanta, GA.

The cabinet would be a wonderful addition to a dining, living or sitting room (see photograph no.1 – as placed in owner’s former, master bedroom sitting area). Please review the twenty-four (24) photographs in assessing the condition of the cabinet.
